Southside Police Department Secure Grant for Operator XR Training Systems

We’re happy to share that the Southside Police Department in Alabama has received a $91,853 grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) to purchase advanced Operator XR virtual reality training systems.

This funding represents a significant investment in the department’s training capabilities, making Southside one of the first agencies in Alabama to implement this cutting-edge system. Operator XR’s virtual reality training empowers officers to rehearse real-life situations in high-stress, simulated environments—enhancing skills and preparing them to better serve their communities.

The department’s adoption of virtual reality police training reflects a broader trend: more agencies are leveraging grant funding for law enforcement training and technology upgrades. With Operator XR’s immersive systems, Southside PD is enhancing officer readiness, reducing training costs, and improving public safety outcomes.

Southside’s success is just one example of how law enforcement agencies can access state and federal grants to modernize their training programs. Many Operator XR customers have secured similar funding through local and national initiatives—proving that VR training for police departments is effective, attainable, and the way forward.
